Aera runs on Rootstock, the smart-contract network that Bitcoin miners seal in the same work as Bitcoin itself. There is no separate validator set to trust and no new token behind the security. The proof of work that protects Bitcoin protects every order placed here, and Rootstock has produced blocks continuously since January 2018.

Rootstock starts producing blocks in January 2018 with merged mining live from the first block. RBTC, its native coin, is backed one to one by bitcoin locked on Bitcoin.

The Powpeg
